Abstract: | Student engagement is a student involvement in school which includes behavioral involvement, emotional involvement and cognitive involvement. Students' perception of the climate in their school can be a predictor of student involvement. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between school climate and student engagement in Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan high school students. This study uses a quantitative approach and the population is Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan High School students. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling with a total sample of 55 students from a population of 220 students. The measuring instrument used is the school climate scale compiled by researchers based on 4 dimensions of the school climate proposed by Thapa, et al (2012) which consists of safety, relationship, teaching and learning and institutional environment with reliability (rxx ') 0.955. On the student engagement scale prepared by researchers based on 3 dimensions of student engagement proposed by Fredricks, et al (2004) consisting of behavioral engagement, emotional engagement and cognitive engagement with reliability (rxx ') 0.926. P (sig) <0.010. in the correlation table, the P value is 0.000, which means more than 0.010, then it is accepted that means there is a POSITIVE relationship between X and Y. With a correlation coefficient level of 0.818. The effective contribution given between self-esteem and self-disclosure is 67.1%. Based on the results of these studies it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between school climate and student engagement in Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan high school students. Then the hypothesis is accepted. |
Description: | Student engagement merupakan keterlibatan siswa di sekolah yang meliputi keterlibatan perilaku, keterlibatan emosional dan keterlibatan kognitif. Persepsi siswa terhadap iklim disekolahnya dapat menjadi prediktor terhadap keterlibatan siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui adanya hubungan antara iklim sekolah dengan student engagement pada siswa SMA Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan populasinya adalah siswa SMA Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah simple random sampling dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 55 siswa dari populasi sebanyak 220 siswa. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah skala iklim sekolah yang disusun oleh peneliti berdasarkan 4 dimensi iklim sekolah yang dikemukakan oleh Thapa, dkk (2012) yang terdiri dari safety, relationship, teaching and learning dan institutional environment dengan reliabilitas (rxx’) 0.955. Pada skala student engagement disusun oleh peneliti berdasarkan 3 dimensi student engagement yang dikemukakan oleh Fredricks, dkk (2004) yang terdiri behavioral engagement, emotional engagement dan cognitive engagement dengan reliabilitas (rxx’) 0.926. P (sig) < 0.010. dalam tabel korelasi nilai P adalah 0.000 yang berarti lebih < dari 0.010 maka dinyataka diterima artinya ada hubungan POSITIF antara X dengan Y. Dengan tingkat koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,818. Sumbangan efektif yang diberikan antara harga diri dengan pengungkapan diri sebesar 67,1%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif antara iklim sekolah dengan student engagement pada siswa SMA Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan. Maka hipotesis diterima. |
