Abstract: This research is a quantitative study that aims to test and obtain empirical data regarding the relationship of emotional intelligence with aggressive behavior in students at the Medan Advent 1 Private High School. In line with the theoretical foundation, the hypothesis is proposed which says there is a negative relationship between emotional intelligence and aggressive behavior. Where the higher emotional intelligence, the lower aggressive behavior and vice versa, the higher the aggressive behavior, the lower emotional intelligence. The study population was 82 students from Advent 1 Private High School in Medan. The sampling technique used in this study consisted of class XII IPA and IPS is a purposive sampling technique. The sample was taken by 33 students. Data collection techniques with scale methods, namely Likert scale for emotional intelligence scale and aggressive behavior scale. The scale of emotional intelligence is based on aspects according to Daniel Goleman (2002). Aggressive behavior scale based on forms according to Johnson & Medinnus (Dayakisni & Hudaniyah, 2001). The value of the reliability coefficient alpha (α) on the scale of emotional intelligence is 0.946 while on the scale of aggressive behavior is 0.907. The data obtained are then analyzed using Product Moment correlation analysis which is preceded by a normality test, and a linearity test. The results of this study indicate a negative and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and aggressive behavior of students of class XII Science and Social Sciences Advent 1 Private High School Medan. This is indicated by the results of the correlation analysis of - 0.751 and p = 0,000. Based on these results it can be concluded that the alternative research hypothesis is accepted and emotional intelligence provides an effective contribution of 56.5% in aggressive behavior.
Description: Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif yang bertujuan untuk menguji dan mendapatkan data secara empiris mengenai hubungan kecerdasan emosional dengan perilaku agresif pada siswa di Perguruan SMA Swasta Advent 1 Medan. Sejalan dengan landasan teori, maka diajukan hipotesa yang berbunyi ada hubungan negatif antara kecerdasan emosional dengan perilaku agresif. Dimana semakin tinggi kecerdasan emosional maka semakin rendah perilaku agresif begitupula sebaliknya semakin tinggi perilaku agresif maka semakin rendah kecerdasann emosional. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa Perguruan SMA Swasta Advent 1 Medan yang berjumlah 82 siswa. Teknik sampling yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas kelas XII IPA dan IPS adalah teknik puposive sampling. Sampel yang diambil sejumlah 33 siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan metode skala, yaitu skala likert untuk skala kecerdasan emosional dan skala perilaku agresif. Skala kecerdasan emosional berdasarkan aspek-aspek menurut Daniel Goleman (2002). Skala perilaku agresif berdasarkan bentuk-bentuk menurut Johnson & Medinnus (Dayakisni & Hudaniyah, 2001). Nilai koefisien reliabilitas alpha (a) pada skala kecerdasan emosional sebesar 0,946 sedangkan pada skala perilaku agresif sebesar 0,907. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis korelasi Product Moment yang didahului dengan uji normalitas, dan uji linearitas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan adanya hubungan negatif dan signifikan antara kecerdasan emosional dengan perilaku agresif siswa kelas XII IPA dan IPS SMA Swasta Advent 1 Medan. Hal ini ditunjukan dengan hasil analisis korelasi sebesar - 0,751 dan p = 0,000. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan hipotesis alternatif penelitian diterima dan kecerdasan emosional memberikan sumbangan efektif 56,5% dalam perilaku agresif.
