Abstract

This research is a quantitative study aimed at testing and Empirically obtaining data on the relationship between the sibling rivalry and the confidence in teenagers. Confidence is a person's belief With respect to all aspects of its strengths and weaknesses and that make him feel capable to reach various goals in his life. The judge (2002) states that a factor that can influence self-esteem is the influence of other family members one of the influences Siblings. Poor relationships with siblings or called sibling rivalry can be difficult to develop a sense of confidence in children. Thus the hypothesis proposed in this study is that there is a link between the sibling rivalry with the confidence in adolescents. The research samples amounted to 64 students and 30 students for trial data. Sampling on this study uses purpossive sampling techniques. The research instrument is a sibling scale rivalry using 3 traits of Shaffer (in Kibtiyah, 2018) confidence based on the traits of Athony (in Hapasari & Primastuti,2014). The data collection method uses the Guttman scale for rival sibling variables, and the Likert scale for self-confidence variables. Method data analysis using product moment correlation technique. There is a significant negative relationship between the sibling rivalry with the confidence in teenagers in SMP Negeri 2 Kualuh Hulu North Labuhan Batu, with a correlation coefficient of ry - 0.543 with significant p = 0.000 < 0.052. Sibling contributed rivalry to the confidence of 29.5 %.
