The research was aimed to determine types of bacteria that cause postoperative wound infection and to find out the type of antibiotics recommended as a therapy for postoperative infections at TK II Putri Hijau Hospital Medan. This research was conducted descriptively identifying the types of bacteria isolated from postoperative wounds and testing the sensitivity to antibiotics by diffusion method. The observed was bacteria species, and susceptibility of antibiotics (S) and resistance (R). The results showed that the most common bacteria infecting postoperative wound were Klebsiella pneumoniae 37.5%, Escherichia coli 31.25%, Proteus mirabilis 18.75% and Pseudomonas aeruginosa 12.5%. Antibiotic susceptibility tests presented that isolated bacteria from postoperative wounds have been highly resistant to ampicillin, cefuroxime, cotrimoxazole, amoxycillin clavulanic, aztreonam, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, and ofloxacin. Recommended antibiotics which still have >80% sensitivity were gentamycin, cefoperazone, meropenem, and amikacin.en_US
