Hubungan Konsep Diri dengan Interaksi Sosial pada Penderita Kanker di RSUP Haji Adam Malik Medan

Abstract

This study aims to look at the relationship between self-concept and social interaction in cancer patients at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. The research approach used is a quantitative approach to the type of correlation research. The population in this study were 86 patients with cancer in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. To determine the number of samples in this study using a total sampling technique, which is the entire population of the study sample which also numbered 86 people. Data is collected using a scale of self-concept and social interaction. Validity test uses content validity test in which the item coefficient obtained valid self-concept scale moves from rbt = 0.310 to rbt = 0.411 and the scale of social interaction moves from rbt = 0.302 to rbt = 0.433 with a significant level or p > 0.300. The reliability test uses Cronbach's Alpha which produces a reliability index of 0.787 for the self-concept scale and 0.827 for the scale of social interaction. Total item correlation test is used to determine the relationship between the two variables, namely self-concept and social interaction obtained through calculations with Product moment correlation. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between self-concept and social interaction in cancer patients at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. This is based on the results of the calculation of the correlation r product moment, where rxy = 0.418 with a significant p = 0.001 < 0.010 means that the hypothesis proposed the more positive the Self-Concept will be the higher the Social Interaction and vice versa the more negative the Self-Concept will be the lower the Social Interaction is expressed be accepted. The effective contribution of self-concept affects social interaction by 17.4 %.
