Abstract

This study aims to find out and test empirically the relationship of father's role with independence in male and female students in SMA Negeri 6 Binjai. Population as much as 317, sampling technique using proportional stratified random sampling technique. Based on the Slovin formula, a sample of 174 people was obtained. The measuring instrument used is the student independence scale and father role scale. Based on ANOVA data analysis the results of the study showed that the hypothesis proposed in this study was stated acceptable, namely there was a positive relationship between the role of father and independence in male and female students. This is evidenced by the correlation coefficient (rxy) = 0.575 p = 0.000 <0.050, meaning that there is a positive relationship between the role of father and independence. Furthermore, it can be seen from the determinant coefficient value (R2) = 0.331 indicating that the father's role contributes effectively or contributes to independence by 33.1%. Calculation of ANOVA analysis, it is known that there are differences in independence in terms of gender. This result is known by looking at the value of F = 12.613 and the significance value of p <0.050, where the value of F counts> Ftable (3.90) thus the hypothesis that reads there is a difference in independence in terms of sex is accepted. Other results were obtained, that the subject of this study was the students of Binjai 6 State Senior High School who had relatively good independence.
