Abstract

Since the presence of the modern market, the traditional one has experienced a decrease in revenue. Nevertheless, the presence of it is not the main factor in the setting aside from the traditional market. The existing traditional market still struggling with the classic problems about bad management, lack of facilities and infrastructure, shopping inconvenience (dirty, chaotic, muddy, dirty), and merchants are increasingly mushrooming. Based on these things, it needs to carry out the development planning of Sukaramai Medan traditional market, in order to be able to improve the quality of markets as one of the supporting facilities in Medan. The design method is the way of thinking by adjusting the formulation of the problem and the design goal until producing a product (design result). Through the design method, can ease the designer in the designing process. In the development planning of Sukaramai Traditional Market, the qualitative descriptive design method was used. The study aimed to reveal facts, conditions, phenomena, variable and condition occurred while conducted the research also describe the actual conditions. This method covered collecting data, analyzing data, interpreting data, and ending with an idea or design solution that referred to the data analysis. The development planning of Sukaramai Traditional Market will use the “Tropical Architecture” concept expected to be able to present a more attractive market in terms of architecture, orderly, clean, comfortable, green, and has complete facilities and infrastructure like the modern market. Making the circulation lane and public room with having a character and special of wiggle room will attract the customers to come and surround the traditional market. Not only is the trading place of daily needs but also expected to be a recreation area when the customers come to Sukaramai Traditional Market. Also being able to be the solution for all the problems exists in the previous Traditional Market.
