Hubungan Antara Dukungan Sosial Dengan Penyesuaian Diri Remaja yang Tinggal di Panti Asuhan Kota Medan

Abstract

This study was aimed to identify the relationship between social support and self adjustment among adolescents who live in orphanage in Medan City. Self adjustment is a process of equalizing individual’s capability to personal life events and environment. This study used quantitative research method. Sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The sample used in this study consisted of 30 orphan adolescents. The hypothesis in this study was there is a relationship between social support and self adjustment among adolescents who live in orphanage. The data in this study was gathered using the scales of Social Support and Self Adjustment. This study used the Pearson’s correlation method of Product Moment (𝑟𝑥𝑦 ) and found that the r had been equal to 0,642 and the p value had been 0,000< 0,05, which means the better the social support the higher self adjustment, conversely the worse the social support, the lower self adjustment. The mean empirical value of social support is 120,47 and the mean of hypothesis value 102,5 with SD value = 10,65. The mean empirical value of selfadjustment is 138, 07 and the mean of hypothesis value 115 with SD value = 12,401, wich means either social support and self-adjustment considered high. The coefficient of determination r2 is 0,413, this shows that the contribution of social support is 41,3%.. This finding showed that the hypothesis proposed that there is a relationship between social support and self adjustment among orphan adolescents has been accepted.
