Hubungan Dukungan Sosial Dengan Harga Diri Pada Homoseksual di Kota Medan

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and self-esteem in homosexuals in medan city. The approach in this study that is used is a quantitative approach to the type of snowball research. The population in this study were homosexuals on Jl. Sei Sekambing Medan Sunggal, amounting to 38 people. In determining the number of samples in this study using a total sampling technique, in which the entire population of the study was made as many as 38 people. Data collection was carried out using a scale of social support and self-esteem. Validity test uses content validity test in which obtained a valid item coefficient scale of social support moves from rbt = 0.302 to rbt = 0.721 and the scale of self-esteem moves from rbt = 0.302 to rbt = 0.528 with a significant level or p> 0.300. The reliability test uses Cronbach's Alpha which produces a reliability index of 0.885 for the social support scale and 0.860 for the self-esteem scale. Total item correlation test is used to determine the relationship between the two variables namely social support and selfesteem obtained through calculations with Product moment correlation. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between social support and self-esteem in homosexuals in medan city. This is based on the results of the calculation of the correlation r product moment, where rxy = 0.602 with a significant p = 0.05 means that the hypothesis proposed the more positive social support, the higher self-esteem and vice versa the more negative social support, the lower selfesteem is expressed be accepted. The effective contribution of social support affects self-esteem by 36.2%.
