Persepsi Mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Medan Area Terhadap Profesi Jurnalis Perempuan Di Kota Medan

Abstract

Ilmu Komunikasi merupakan salah satu program studi yang membahas mengenai jurnalistik, dan salah satu lapangan pekerjaan yang dihasilkan dari lulusan komunikasi adalah menjadi jurnalis, baik itu bagi perempuan maupun laki-laki. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai persepsi mahasiswa ilmu komunikasi Universitas Medan Area terhadap profesi jurnalis perempuan di Kota Medan. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa ilmu komunikasi Universitas Medan Area terhadap profesi jurnalis perempuan di Kota Medan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif kuantitatif dengan jumlah populasi sebanyak 611 orang. Penarikan sampel menggunakan Rumus Slovin dengan presisi 90% dan tingkat kesalahan yang dikehendaki sebesar 10%, maka diperoleh sampel sebanyak 86 responden. Sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis tabel tunggal dan analisis tabel silang dengan menggunakan Statistical Product and System Solution (SPSS) versi 16.0. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan mayoritas responden tidak tertarik pada profesi jurnalis, dengan perolehan hasil sebesar 45,3%. Bahkan setengah dari total keseluruhan responden (50%) dalam penelitian ini enggan menjadikan profesi jurnalis sebagai pilihan utamanya untuk berkarir. Peneliti mendapati bahwa hal tersebut dilatar belakangi karena adanya perspektif budaya dan juga aktivitas yang dilakukan oleh jurnalis di lingkungan kerja mereka, yang membuat sebagian besar mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Medan Area memiliki keinginan yang rendah untuk berkarir sebagai jurnalis. Communication science is one of the study programs that discusses journalism, and one of the jobs produced by communication graduates is to become a journalist, both for women and men. This study will discuss the perceptions of communication science students at University of Medan Area towards the female journalist profession in the city of Medan. The purpose of this study was to determine the perception of students of communication science at the University of Medan Area on the profession of female journalists in Medan City. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative, with a total population of 611 people. Sampling using the Slovin formula with a precision of 90% and the desired error rate of 10%, theb obtained a sample of 86 respondents. The data analysis technique used is single table analysis and cross table analysis using Statistical Product and System Solution (SPSS) version 16.0. The results of this study indicate that the majority of respondents are not interested in the journalism proffesion, with 45.3% of the results. Even half of the total respondents (50%) in this study are reluctant to make the journalist profession their main choice for a career. The researcher found that this was motivated by a cultural perspective and also the activities carried out by journalist in their work environment, which made most of the students of Communication science at the University of Medan Area have a low desire for a career as a journalist.
