This study aims to determine the correlation between social support and loneliness in the elderly at the UPT Social Services for the Elderly Social Service Office of Binjai, North Sumatra Province. The research sample consisted of 96 elderly people at the UPT Social Services for the Elderly Social Services of the Binjai Social Service, North Sumatra Province, which were obtained through the Purposive Sampling technique. The research instrument uses a Likert scale of social support and loneliness variables. The data analysis technique used is Product Moment correlation from Karl Pearson. The results of this study showed a correlation coefficient (rxy) of = –0.654 with a significant value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05). This means that the research hypothesis is accepted, namely that there is a significant negative correlation between social support and loneliness. Based on the calculation results, the hypothetical and empirical average values of social support are classified as moderate because the average hypothetical value of social support is 47.5 greater than the empirical average value of 46.67 and loneliness is classified as low because the average hypothetical value is 67. 5 is greater than the empirical average value of 44.07. The effective contribution of social support affects loneliness by 42.7%. The other factors that were not examined in this study amounted to 57.3% namely; derived from separation situations, beliefs, personality, gender, marital status, psychological, age, marital status, and socioeconomic status.
