This study aims to determine the effect of word of mouth on online shopping purchase intentions through the X application for Medan Area University students. This type of research used is quantitative research. The population in this study were 165 students of the Faculty of Psychology, Medan Area University. The number of samples taken were 2018 students of the Faculty of Psychology, University of Medan Area and who had shopped online through an application with a total of 116 students. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling technique. The collection of WOM scale and purchase intention scale uses a Likert scale which is analyzed using a simple linear regression analysis method. Based on the results of data analysis, it shows that there is an influence of word of mouth (WOM) on online shopping purchase intentions through the X application for Medan Area University students with a sig = 0.001 <0.05. Based on the results of the calculation of the hypothetical mean and empirical mean, it shows that Medan Area University students have word of mouth which is classified as in the high category. This can be seen from the empirical mean/average = 61.09 and the hypothetical mean = 52.5 with a standard deviation (SD) = 7.882. Besides that, Medan Area University students have a purchase intention that is classified as moderate and tends to be high. This can be seen from the empirical mean/average value = 45.77 and the hypothetical mean value = 40 with a standard deviation (SD) = 5.867.
