Skala kecerdasan emosi disusun berdasarkan aspek-aspek dari Goleman (2009): mengenali emosi diri, mengelola emosi, memotivasi diri sendiri, mengenali emosi orang lain, membina hubungan. Kecenderungan perilaku Phubbing diukur berdasarkan Generic Scale of Phubbing (GSP) yang disusun Binti Isrofin berdasarkan teori Generic Scale of Phubbing menurut Chotpitayasunondh dan Douglas (2018). This research aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and the tendency for phubbing behavior in generation Z students at Medan Area University. The type of research used is a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The population in this study were students at the Faculty of Economics, Medan Area University. The samples taken were 45 people using purposive sampling technique. The emotional intelligence scale is based on aspects from Goleman (2009): recognizing one's emotions, managing emotions, motivating oneself, recognizing other people's emotions, building relationships. Phubbing behavior tendencies were measured based on the Generic Scale of Phubbing (GSP) compiled by Binti Isrofin based on the Generic Scale of Phubbing theory according to Chotpitayasunondh and Douglas (2018). Based on the results of product moment correlation analysis calculations, it can be seen that there is no relationship between emotional intelligence and phubbing (sig 0.853 > 0.05; correlation coefficient r 0.028). The correlation coefficient r 0.028 indicates that the strength of the relationship between emotional intelligence and phubbing is low/weak. The subject's emotional intelligence is classified as moderate and the subject's phubbing tendencies are classified as high.en_US
