This research aims to empirically test the correlation between school climate and truant behavior in class VIII students at SMP Kartika 1-2 Medan. The population is 99 students. Sample selection in the research was carried out using purposive sampling technique. The description of the population and sample size used by the author is 49 students who were recorded as having carried out truant activities. The scale compiled based on aspects of truant behavior according to Dorothy (in Ibrahim, 2015) is: Truancy behavior that originates from oneself, truant behavior that originates from outside the individual. The scale is structured based on aspects of school climate, namely: According to Sutisno (2013), aspects of school climate are: Interaction between students and teachers, learning process, school conditions. Based on the results of product moment correlation analysis calculations, it can be seen that there is a negative relationship between school climate and truancy behavior. This result is proven by the correlation coefficient rxy = -0.505, with significant p = 0.000 < 0.05. The determinant coefficient (r2) of the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable is r2= 0.255. This shows that the school climate has a distribution of 25.50% on truancy behavior. This shows that there are 74.50% factors that influence truant behavior, such as: rules that are felt to be too strict for children, inconsistent policies regarding truancy. decreased motivation, loss of students' academic interest, conditions of missing out on lessons, incomplete parents (only mother/father left), parents are not harmonious/frequently quarrel, parents' educational background, parents' bad character.
