Traffic accidents at railway crossings often pose serious risks due to the lack of automated level crossing gates. This study aims to develop and test an automated railway crossing gate system using Outseal PLC, powered by a mini solar panel and an AC to DC adapter with battery storage. The research methodology involves system planning and experimentation. The results of the study demonstrate that this system functions effectively as a warning system at railway crossings. Photoelectric sensors placed at distances of 57 cm and 52 cm from the crossing gate provide efficient responses. When a train approaches the first sensor, the Outseal system activates the crossing gate, and when the train moves away from the second sensor, the gate opens. The time required for closing and opening the crossing gate is 6 seconds. During a 70-minute battery charging cycle, the initial voltage is 12.4 volts, which decreases to 11.8 volts at the end. In a 60-minute usage test with a 120-minute battery charging cycle, the initial voltage is 12.4 volts, decreasing to 11.7 volts at the end. The Outseal PLC can handle a maximum current capacity of only 500 mA, thus requiring the use of an external relay for high-current applications, such as DC contactors and DC motors. This research aims to enhance safety and efficiency at railway crossings. | en_US |
