Additional layer planning (Overlay Design) is determining the thickness of the asphalt layer or granular layer that will cover the existing pavement. For several years, planning for additional layers of asphalt for flexible pavement has been based on the amount of deflection that occurs. Data on deflections that occur is one of the important things in identifying existing deficiencies and needs. The deflection data was obtained from measurements using the Benkelman Beam tool. Additional layer thickness is the layer thickness required to reduce deflections that occur during the design life to the permitted limit. In planning the thickness of the pavement layer, we use the Highways Method as a guideline issued by the Department of Public Works, Directorate General of Highways and guidelines that come from outside, namely the Australian NAASRA (National Association of Australian State Road Authorities) Method. These two methods will be compared in planning the thickness of the additional layer. | en_US |
