Coffee plays a crucial role in Indonesia's economic landscape, serving as a primary income source for over a million farmers. As the third-largest coffee producer globally, after Brazil and Vietnam, Indonesia contributes significantly, accounting for 6% of the global coffee production. In North Sumatra Province, coffee is a key commodity, following cocoa, palm oil, and rubber, cultivated in high-altitude regions ranging from 1000 to 1650 meters above sea level. Samosir Regency is a home to one of the notable coffee-producing areas. This research aimed to assess the diversity of insect species inhabiting Arabica coffee plants (Coffea arabica L.) in Salaon Tonga-Tonga Village, Samosir Regency. Insect sampling was performed using the sweep netting method at five designated points, each replicated five times during morning and afternoon sessions. The findings revealed the presence of 152 individual insects, representing 26 genera, 25 families, and 6 orders. Blissus (Order Hemiptera) emerged as the most prevalent genus, comprising 42 individuals, followed by Aedes (Order Diptera) with 23 individuals and Apis (Order Hymenoptera) with 20 individuals. The insect diversity index (H') was 2.44, indicating a moderate level of diversity. This information will serve as a reference for future efforts in controlling pests, to support the quality and productivity of North Sumatran coffee varieties. | en_US |
