Vegetables are the most important food for the human body, but vegetables that are not kept clean can easily be contaminated by microbes due to poor hygiene and sanitation. This research aims to determine the bacterial contamination of Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp. in several types of vegetables that are bought and sold in traditional markets in the city of Medan. The method used is qualitative descriptive. The samples taken were samples of spinach, cabbage, ground kale, basil and lettuce which were taken randomly at each traditional market in Medan City, namely the Melati Market, the Sei Kambing Market and the Kampung Lalang Market. The test was then carried out on selective Salmonella Shigella Agar media and Selective Eosin Methylene Blue Agar media. The results of observations on Eosin Methylene Blue Agar media showed that 5 samples of vegetables in each traditional market were contaminated with Escherichia coli bacteria with the growth of metallic green bacteria, and the results of observations on Salmonella Shigella Agar media showed that 1 sample of lettuce that was bought and sold at the Sei Kambing Market was contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. sp with colorless colonies with black centers.en_US
