Abstract: Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kebun Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Medan Area, Kecamatan Percut Sei Tuan, Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Percobaan dilakukan selama empat bulan,dimulai dari Nopember 2002 sampai dengan Pebruari 2003. Tujuan percobaan ini adalah untuk mengetahui varietas yang terbaik dari varietas Fl 56, PS 85, PS 58 dan jwnlah ruas terhadap pertumbuhan vegetatif tanaman tebu ( Saccharum officinarwn L. ). Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelornpok ( RAK ) Fa1..'1orial dengan dua faktor perlakuan, faktor pertama yaitu beberapa varietas tanaman tebu dengan notasi ( C ), terdiri dari tiga taraf yaitu C 1 ( varietas F 1 56 ), C2 ( varietas PS 85 ) dan C3 ( varietas PS 58 ). Faktor kedua yaitu jumlah ruas dari bahan stek dengan notasi ( M ), terdiri dari tiga taraf perlakuan yaitu M 1 ( satu ruas ), M2 ( dua ruas ) dan M3 ( tiga ruas ). Parameter yang diamati meliputi persentase tumbuh ( % ), panjang tunas tanarnan (cm), diameter hatang (mm) danjumlah daun ( helai ). Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa faktor perlakuan varietas tidak berbeda nyata terhadap semua parameter yang diamati yaitu persentase tumbuh, panjang tunas tanaman, diameter batang, dan jumlah daun. Selanjutnya hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa faktor perlakuan jumlah ruas bahan stek, herbeda sangat nyata terhadap persentase tumbuh, tetapi tidak berbeda nyata terhadap parameter panjang tunas tanaman, diameter batang maupun j umlah daun. Jumlah ruas yang terbaik pertumbuhannya diperoleh pada perlakuan M3 ( 3 ruas ) = 96,29 %, kemudian diikuti M2 ( 2 ruas ) = 94,44 % dan MI ( 1 ruas ) = 75,92 % . Sedangkan faktor interaksi perlakuan antara varietas dan jumlah ruas bahan stek tidak berbeda nyata terhadap semua parameter yang diamati. This research was carried out at the Experimental Garden of the University's Faculty of Agriculture Medan Area, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. Test carried out for four months, starting from November 2002 to February 2003. The aim of this experiment is to find out the best varieties of varieties Fl 56, PS 85, PS 58 and number of internodes for vegetative growth sugar cane plant (Saccharum officinarwn L.). The design used is a Group Random Design (RAK) Fa1..'1orial with two treatment factors, the first factor is several varieties Sugarcane plants with the notation (C), consist of three levels, namely C 1 (variety F 1 56), C2 (PS 85 variety) and C3 (PS 58 variety). The second factor is the number of segments cutting material with the notation (M), consisting of three levels of treatment, namely M 1 (one segment), M2 (two segments) and M3 (three segments). Parameters observed included growth percentage (%), length of shoots (cm), stem diameter (mm) and number of leaves (strands). The experimental results showed that the variety treatment factors did not differ significant for all parameters observed, namely growth percentage, shoot length plant, stem diameter, and number of leaves. Furthermore, the experimental results show that the treatment factor is amount segments of cutting material, the herb differs very significantly in terms of growth percentage, but not significantly different to the parameters of plant shoot length, stem diameter and number of leaves. The best number of segments for growth was obtained in the M3 treatment (3 segments) = 96.29%, followed by M2 (2 segments) = 94.44% and MI (1 segment) = 75.92%. Meanwhile, the treatment interaction factor between variety and number of segments of cutting material was not significantly different for all parameters observed.
