Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pupuk Sprint dan berat mulsa jerami terhadap pertumbuhan jagung (Zea mays) dan dilaksanakan di Desa Paing, Kelurahan Aek Paing, Kecamatan Rantau Utara, Kabupaten Labuhan Batu dengan ketinggian tempat kira-kira 40 m dari permukaan laut, topografi datar dan jenis tanah alluvial mulai bulan Juni sampai dengan bulan September 2008. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) Faktorial dengan 2 (dua) faktor perlakuan, yaitu : 1) Faktor perlakuan pemberian pupuk Sprint (notasi P), terdiri dari 4 taraf perlakuan, yakni : Po= tanpa pupuk (kontrol); P1 = konsentrasi 4 g/liter air; P2 = konsentrasi 6 g/liter air; P3 = konsentrasi 8 g/liter air dan 2) Faktor berat mulsa jerami (notasi M), terdiri dari 3 taraf perlakuan, yakni : Mo= tanpa mulsa (kontrol); M1 = 1,5 kg mulsa/plot; M2 = 3,0 kg mulsa/plot, dengan jumlah ulangan sebanyak 3 (tiga) ulangan. Parametet yang diamati pada penelitian ini adalah tinggi tanaman (cm), jumlah daun (helai), panjang tongkol, (cm), berat tongkol (g) dengan klobot dan berat 1000 biji (g). Dari hasil penelitian ini diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa : 1) Perlakuan pupuk Sprint berpengaruh nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman umur 7 MST, jumlah daun umur 4 MST, panjang tongkol, berat tongkol dengan klobot dan berat 1000 biji; 2) Perlakuan berat mulsa jerami berpengaruh nyata terhadap panjang tongkol tetapi berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, berat tongkoJ dengan klobot dan berat 1000 biji; 3) Interaksi kedua faktor perlakuan berpengaruh nyata terhadap panjang tongkol dan berat tongkol dengan klobot, tetapi berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap parameter lainnya. This research aims to determine the effect of giving Sprint fertilizer and the weight of straw mulch on the growth of corn (Zea mays) and implemented in Paing Village, Aek Paing Village, North Rantau District, Labuhan Regency Rock with a height of approximately 40 m above sea level, flat topography and alluvial soil types from June to September 2008. The design used in this research was a Randomized Design Factorial Group (RAK) with 2 (two) treatment factors, namely: 1) Factor Sprint fertilizer application treatment (P notation), consists of 4 treatment levels, namely: Po= without fertilizer (control); P1 = concentration 4 g/liter of water; P2 = concentration 6 g/liter of water; P3 = concentration of 8 g/liter of water and 2) Straw mulch weight factor (notation M), consisting of 3 levels of treatment, namely: Mo= without mulch (control); M1 = 1.5 kg mulch/plot; M2 = 3.0 kg mulch/plot, with 3 (three) repetitions. The parameters Observed in this study were plant height (cm), number of leaves (strands), length cob, (cm), weight of cob (g) with husk and weight of 1000 seeds (g). From the results of this research, it was concluded that: 1) Fertilizer treatment Sprint has a significant effect on plant height at 7 WAP and number of leaves at age 4 MST, cob length, cob weight with husk and weight of 1000 seeds; 2) Straw mulch weight treatment had a significant effect on ear length however no significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, weight of tongkoJ with husks and weight of 1000 seeds; 3) The interaction of the two treatment factors has a significant effect on cob length and cob weight with husk, but had no effect real to other parameters.
