A phenomenon that we are very familiar with in the current era of technological development is the lack of quality interaction between humans. Likewise, students in higher education institutions ideally have a lot of interaction with society and the surrounding environment, create lots of ideas for change, carry out lots of discussion studies to enrich their thinking, in this era of very rapid technological progress, students actually spend more time by staring at their smartphone screen, social interactions end up having minimal eye contact because they tend to look at the smartphone rather than looking at the person they are talking to. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of Smartphone addiction and self-control on Phubbing behavior. This research is a quantitative correlational research using non-probability sampling techniques, sampling using purposive sampling with the criteria of active students aged 15-24 years, having a device and actively using a device (using the device more than 5 hours/day) and seen very often holding a smartphone, indicated interact while opening the smartphone and tend to use the smartphone during lecture hours. The total research sample was 149 students. The results of this study show that there is a significant influence of Smartphone addiction and Self Control together on Phubbing behavior. Smartphone addiction has a significant positive influence on Phubbing behavior with (sig. 0.000 and r = 0.448). Meanwhile, Self Control has a significant negative influence on Phubbing behavior with (sig. 0.000 and r = 0.558). Smartphone addiction and Self Control together contribute 69.7% to Phubbing behavior and 30.3% is influenced by other factors outside the research. |
