This study aims to determine the interpersonal communication patterns of counselors assisting drug addicts at the National Narcotics Agency Rehabilitation Center in Deli Serdang Regency. This study used qualitative methods using participant observation and in-depth interviews. The results showed that empathetic and non-judgmental interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in successful rehabilitation. However, barriers such as shame, fear, and emotional instability hinder addicts' openness. This study concluded that two-way, reciprocal communication patterns help build trust. These barriers include psychological factors, social pressure, trauma, and emotional instability due to drug use. Therefore, an adaptive communication approach and a conducive rehabilitation environment are needed to improve recovery effectiveness. |
