Earthquakes are one of the natural disasters that can cause structural damage to buildings, especially multi-storey buildings such as apartments. Therefore, seismic performance evaluation is an important aspect in ensuring structural safety against earthquake loads. This study aims to evaluate the nonlinear seismic performance of apartment structures under construction at the North Sumatra Regional Police using the Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) approach. This method allows for the analysis of structural behavior against various levels of earthquake intensity gradually until reaching certain limit conditions, such as Immediate Occupancy (IO), Life Safety (LS), and Collapse Prevention (CP) which refer to the ASCE 41-17 and SNI 1726:2019 standards. The apartment structure model was modeled using SAP2000 software with nonlinear elements that represent the plastic response of the structure due to earthquakes. This modeling includes beams, columns, and connections that can experience inelastic deformation. Simulations were performed by applying normalized earthquake recordings based on the design spectrum appropriate to the study location. The analysis results include an Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) curve that shows the relationship between earthquake intensity and structural response, story displacement that describes the displacement between floors due to dynamic loads, and a story drift ratio evaluated against the maximum limits allowed in earthquake design standards. The results show that at low to moderate earthquake levels, the structure is still in a safe condition with IO to LS criteria. However, at higher earthquake intensities, several structural elements experience significant deformations approaching the CP limit, indicating the potential for partial collapse in critical elements. Therefore, this study provides recommendations to improve the structure's earthquake resistance through redesigning critical elements or implementing additional energy damping systems. |
