The purpose of this study was to see the relationship between interpersonal communication with emotional intelligence and the subjects of the study were 52 students of the Psychology Faculty of UMA Medan. From data analysis using product moment correlation formula, the following results are obtained: 1). There is a very significant positive relationship between interpersonal communication and emotional intelligence. This result is proven by the rxy correlation coefficient = 0.542; sig <0.010. This means that the better interpersonal communication, the higher the emotional intelligence, and conversely the worse the interpersonal communication, the lower the emotional intelligence. Thus the hypothesis that has been proposed in this study is declared acceptable. 2). Interpersonal communication contributes 29.4% to emotional intelligence. From these results it is known that there are still 70.6% of the influence of other factors on emotional intelligence, where other factors in this study are not seen, including family, school, education, music, age, and environmental factors. Other results are known that interpersonal communication possessed by students is classified good, because the empirical mean (89,961) is greater than the hypothetical mean (75) and the difference exceeds SD numbers, namely 11,353. Then in terms of emotional intelligence, it is also known that students have high emotional intelligence, because the empirical mean (104,057) is greater than the hypothetical mean (85) and the difference exceeds the SD number, namely 14,429.en_US
