| Abstract: | Penelitian ini berjudul: Persepsi Mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Medan Area tentang Toxic masculinity. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fenomena Toxic masculinity yang sering muncul dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan sosial dan budaya. Toxic masculinity mengacu pada ekspektasi dan norma sosial yang mendorong laki-laki untuk menunjukkan perilaku maskulin yang berlebihan dan merugikan, seperti dominasi, ketidakmampuan menunjukkan emosi, dan agresivitas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Medan Area tentang Toxic masculinity dan dampaknya terhadap kehidupan mereka. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Universitas Medan Area dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi untuk mendapatkan pemahaman yang lebih komprehensif mengenai persepsi mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa persepsi mahasiswa terhadap Toxic masculinity sangat bervariasi dan dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor seperti lingkungan sosial, media, dan pengalaman pribadi. Sebagian besar informan mengakui bahwa nilai-nilai maskulinitas yang memiliki dampak negatif terhadap kesehatan mental dan hubungan interpersonal mereka sehingga edukasi dan kesadaran tentang dampak buruk Toxic masculinity perlu ditingkatkan di kalangan mahasiswa untuk menciptakan lingkungan sosial yang lebih sehat dan inklusif. This research is titled: The Perception of Communication Science Students at Universitas Medan Area on Toxic masculinity. The study is motivated by the phenomenon of toxic masculinity that often appears in various aspects of social and cultural life. Toxic masculinity refers to the expectations and social norms that encourage men to exhibit excessive and harmful masculine behaviors, such as dominance, inability to show emotions, and aggressiveness. The purpose of this research is to understand the perceptions of Communication Science students at Universitas Medan Area regarding toxic masculinity and its impact on their lives. This research was conducted at Universitas Medan Area using a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews and observations to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the students' perceptions. The results of this study show that students' perceptions of toxic masculinity vary widely and are influenced by factors such as social environment, media, and personal experiences. Most informants acknowledged that hegemonic masculinity values have negative impacts on their mental health and interpersonal relationships, indicating that education and awareness about the harmful effects of toxic masculinity need to be enhanced among students to create a healthier and more inclusive social environment. |
