| Abstract: | Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana cara para pengguna aplikasi mengelola privasi saat menggunakan media sosial Instagram. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi pada Mahasiswa Universitas Medan Area Kampus 2. Pengelolaan tersebut menggunakan teori Communication Privacy Management (CPM) atau Manajemen Privasi Komunikasi oleh Sandra Petronio. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bagaimana proses manajemen privasi komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh tiga informan yang pernah mengalami kebocoran data di Instagram. Ketiga informan menyadari pentingnya untuk membuat keputusan pribadi mengenai informasi yang dibagikan di Instagram. Menerapkan batasan pribadi menggunakan fitur teman dekat di Instagram. Kontrol kepemilikan menggunakan aplikasi pihak ketiga untuk mengantisipasi kebocoran data. Keterbukaan informasi dalam bersosial media, dan dialektika manajemen sebagai proses pertimbangan terhadap informasi yang akan dibagikan. The purpose of this research was to understand how users of the application manage privacy when using Instagram social media. The method used in this research was qualitative with a phenomenological approach to students of University of Medan Area Campus 2. This privacy management used the Communication Privacy Management (CPM) theory by Sandra Petronio. The results of this research showed how the communication privacy management process was carried out by three informants who had experienced data leakage on Instagram. The three informants realized the importance of making personal decisions about the information shared on Instagram, applying personal boundaries using the close friends feature on Instagram. Ownership control used third-party applications to anticipate data leaks. Information disclosure on social media and dialectic management served as a consideration process regarding the information to be shared. |
