This study aims to examine differences in self-control among college students in Medan who engage in online compulsive buying based on gender. The research used a quantitative comparative method with a population of male and female college students aged 18–25 years. The sample consisted of 128 students, including 67 female students and 61 male students, selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using the online compulsive buying scale, developed from Andreassen et al., and the self-control scale, developed from Tangney et al. The validity test of the online compulsive buying scale showed item-total correlation values ranging from 0.047 to 0.866 (p > 0.03) with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.936, while the self-control scale showed values ranging from 0.065 to 0.801 (p > 0.03) with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.960. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test, yielding a significance value of 0.022 < 0.05. The results indicate a significant difference in self-control between male and female college students. Female students were found to have lower self-control than male students, with a mean difference of 6.36.en_US
