This study aims to examine the effect of fatherless on self-esteem among eighth-grade students at SMP 01 Muhammadiyah Medan. Fatherlessness refers to the absence of a father's physical or emotional involvement in parenting, which can affect the development of a child’s self-worth. The research employed a quantitative approach using simple regression analysis. The sample consisted of 105 students selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were fatherless and self-esteem scales based on the theories of Coopersmith and Lamb et al. The results of data analysis showed a significant negative influence of fatherlessness on self-esteem, with a regression coefficient of R2 = 0,386 and p < 0.05. This means the higher the level of fatherlessness, the lower the students' self-esteem. These findings highlight the crucial role of fathers in developing children's self-confidence and self-worth.
