This study aims to analyze the effect of work stress on employee performance at PT. Oleochem Soap Industri Medan. Work stress is understood as a state of tension that affects a person's emotions, thought processes, and physical condition, thus impacting performance achievement. The study population included all 303 employees. Due to the large number, the sample was determined using the Slovin formula with a 10% error rate, resulting in 75 respondents selected proportionally. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey method, where data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using normality tests, linearity tests, and Product Moment correlation tests. The results of the analysis showed that the data were normally distributed and the relationship between work stress and performance was linear (p = 0.561 > 0.05). The correlation test showed a significant negative relationship between work stress and employee performance (r = -0.593; p = 0.000), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.351. This indicates that 35.1% of performance variation is explained by work stress, while the rest is influenced by other factors. Furthermore, comparing the empirical mean performance (37.25) with the hypothetical mean (42.5) places performance in the low category. This finding confirms that the higher the work stress experienced by employees, the lower their performance. Therefore, management needs to manage work stress effectively to increase productivity and achieve optimal performance.en_US
