| Abstract: | Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh self-esteemterhadap celebrity worship pada komunitas Wibu Mau Pigi Event Medan. This study examines the influence of self-esteem on celebrity worship among members of the Wibu Mau Pigi Event Medan community. Celebrity worship is defined as excessive emotional, cognitive, and behavioral attachment to celebrities or fictional characters, often as psychological compensation. Using a quantitative approach, simple linear regression was conducted with 126 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Self-esteem was measured using Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale (as cited in Mruk, 2006), encompassing self-competence and self-liking. Celebrity worship was assessed with a modified Celebrity Worship Anime Scale (McCutcheon et al., 2002), comprising entertainment-social, intense-personal, and borderline-pathological dimensions. Results revealed a significant negative correlation (r = -0.428, p < 0.01), with celebrity worship explaining 16.8% of self-esteem variance. Most respondents scored moderately, but lower self-esteem related to higher celebrity worship, especially intense-personal involvement. Findings align with prior research and suggest celebrity worship is neither wholly pathological nor adaptive, depending on intensity, social support, and individual psychological traits. |
