This study aimed to examine differences in loneliness between migrant students and those living with their parents. Loneliness is understood as a subjective emotional condition that arises when the quality or quantity of social relationships does not meet expectations. The research employed a comparative quantitative approach involving 81 students from the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Medan Area, class of 2022, selected using incidental sampling. The instrument used was a loneliness scale based on Cacioppo and Patrick’s (2008) theory, consisting of 24 items with four Likert-type response options. The scale was tested for validity and reliability, showing a reliability coefficient of 0.833, indicating strong internal consistency. Data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test. The results revealed a significant difference in loneliness levels between the two groups. Migrant students reported higher loneliness scores (mean = 138.06) compared to students living with their parents (mean = 81.24). These findings suggest that migrant students are more vulnerable to loneliness and highlight the importance of effective social and emotional support to maintain their psychological well-being.en_US
