This study aims to examine the effect of peer attachment on emotion regulation among adolescents in the NCTZen Medan community. The population in this study consisted of all adolescents in the NCTZen Medan community, totaling 396 individuals, with a sample of 52 participants selected using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this research were the peer attachment and the emotion regulation scale. The peer attachment scale was developed based on the aspects proposed by Armsden and Greenberg (1987), namely trust, communication, and alienation (44 items, α = .895), while the emotion regulation scale was constructed based on aspects from Gross (2007), namely strategies to emotion regulation, engaging in goal-directed behavior, control emotional responses, and acceptance of emotional response (36 items, α = .882). The results of linear regression analysis showed a significant positive effect of peer attachment on emotion regulation, with an F-value of 9,626 and a significance level of p = 0.003 (p < 0.05). The obtained regression equation was Y = 460.183+ 0,364x, indicating that each one-unit increase in peer attachment leads to an increase of 0.364 in emotion regulation. This result is further supported by the coefficient of determination (r²) of 0.161, which indicates that 16,1% of the variance in emotion regulation can be explained by peer attachment. | en_US |
