This research is entitled “The Representation of Eastern Indonesian Stereotypes in the Film Kaka Boss (2024).” The objective of this study is to examine how stereotypes of Eastern Indonesian communities are represented through the character of Ferdinand in the film. By employing Stuart Hall’s theory of representation and Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis, the study analyzes visual and narrative signs that portray cultural identity and stereotypical elements embedded in the main character. The research uses a qualitative method with a semiotic approach. Data collection techniques include observation of key film scenes, documentation, and literature study, which are then analyzed through Barthes’ two levels of meaning: denotation and connotation. The findings indicate that the film tends to reinforce cultural stereotypes of Eastern Indonesians through the use of dialect, exaggerated gestures, and associations with lowerclass occupations. Kaka Boss does not merely depict Eastern Indonesians as comedic characters, but also reproduces simplified cultural narratives that risk perpetuating biased interpretations toward specific ethnic groups.en_US
