Abstract: Penelitian ini membahas pemutusan hubungan kerja (PHK) dengan alasan efisiensi di perusahaan berdasarkan ketentuan Undang-Undang Nomor 13 Tahun 2003 tentang Ketenagakerjaan. Studi ini difokuskan pada analisis kasus Putusan Nomor: 300/Pdt.Sus-PHI/2022/PN Mdn sebagai bentuk konkret penerapan hukum ketenagakerjaan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengaturan hukum mengenai PHK karena efisiensi, bagaimana penerapannya di perusahaan, serta dampak dan perlindungan hukum bagi pekerja yang terkena PHK. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara dan studi dokumentasi di Pengadilan Negeri Medan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa PHK dengan alasan efisiensi dapat dibenarkan secara hukum jika sesuai prosedur, seperti melalui perundingan bipartit dan pemberian hak-hak pekerja. Namun, dalam praktiknya, seringkali PHK dilakukan secara sepihak tanpa proses yang adil. Efisiensi dijadikan dalih untuk memberhentikan pekerja tanpa mengindahkan perlindungan hukum sebagaimana mestinya, yang menimbulkan dampak ekonomi, sosial, dan psikologis bagi pekerja. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya penegakan hukum yang adil dan perlindungan yang kuat bagi pekerja agar tidak dirugikan dalam proses PHK. This study discusses termination of employment (PHK) for reasons of efficiency in companies based on the provisions of Law Number 13 of 2003 concerning Manpower. This study focuses on the analysis of the case of Decision Number: 300/Pdt.Sus-PHI/2022/PN Mdn as a concrete form of the principle of labor law. The purpose of this study is to determine how the legal regulations regarding layoffs due to efficiency, how they are implemented in companies, and the impact and legal protection for workers affected by layoffs. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews and documentation studies at the Medan District Court. The results of the study indicate that layoffs for reasons of efficiency can be legally justified if they are in accordance with procedures, such as through bipartite negotiations and the provision of workers' rights. However, in practice, layoffs are often carried out unilaterally without a fair process. Efficiency is used as a pretext to dismiss workers without paying attention to the protection as required by law, which has economic, social, and psychological impacts on workers. This study emphasizes the importance of fair law enforcement and strong protection for workers so that they are not disadvantaged in the layoff process.
