Coffee is a plantation crop that has been cultivated for a long time and has a fairly high economic value. Coffee comes from Africa, namely from Ethiopia (Permentan, 2012). However, coffee itself was only recognized by the world community after the plant was developed outside its area of origin, namely Yemen in the south. Coffee is one of the plantation commodities that has high economic value among other plantation crops and plays an important role as a source of foreign exchange (Sri- Mulato, 2011). Coffee does not only play an important role as a source of foreign exchange but is also a source of income for no less than one and a half million coffee farmers in Indonesia (Amelia S, 2008). In the last 10 years, the Indonesian coffee industry has experienced a significant growth of 250%. Currently, Indonesia is the 4th largest coffee producer in the world after Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia. Indonesia's coffee land area reaches 1.25 million hectares with a total production of up to 761 thousand tons per year (Agung Prijo, 2015). The coffee grinding process currently uses more portable blenders where the grinding results are less than optimal and reduce the taste compared to stone grinding (Sudianto Lande, 2013). In general, coffee machines have several types of coffee grinders, namely burr grinders, but these machines are a bit noisy and take longer to grind (Susanto, 2013). In addition, they are more expensive than blade grinders. Blade grinder, the grind size is sometimes uneven, and when the blade starts to get hot, it can slightly change the taste of coffee. There is also a conical grinder, this type of machine is the most expensive of the three models, and the rotation is slower | en_US |
