Abstract: Film A Silent Voice merepresentasikan realitas komunikasi nonverbal yang dialami oleh penyandang tunarungu melalui karakter Shoko Nishimiya. The film A Silent Voice represents the reality of nonverbal communication experienced by the hearing impaired thru the character Shoko Nishimiya. The limitations in verbal communication make nonverbal language such as sign language, body gestures, facial expressions, touch, interpersonal distance, and the use of objects the main media in building social interactions and self-meaning formation. This research aims to identify how the meaning of nonverbal communication is represented and how the process of meaning formation occurs thru social interaction in the film A Silent Voice. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis methods, based on Herbert Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism theory, which emphasizes three main premises: meaning, language, and thought. Data collection techniques were carried out thru observation of scenes and documentation of the film relevant to the research focus. The research findings reveal that nonverbal communication in the film A Silent Voice serves as the main foundation in the social interaction process of the hearing-impaired character, shaping self-identity, and reflecting experiences of trauma, feelings of inferiority, and psychological recovery processes. The meaning that is formed does not appear instantly, but is built thru an internal reflective process and repeated social experiences. Thus, the film A Silent Voice consistently represents nonverbal communication as a symbolic language that plays a significant role in building social meaning for individuals with hearing impairments.
