This study, entitled “Communication Gap Between Security Guards and Students” (Case Study of Communication Gap Between Security Guards and Students in Vehicle Registration Checks in the Parking Lot of Medan Area University Campus 1), aims to see the extent to which interpersonal communication between security guards and students affects efficiency and security, and to see whether there is a difference in understanding between security guards and students during vehicle registration checks. In this study, George Herbert Mead's symbolic interaction theory is used. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study research method to gain a deep understanding of the phenomena that occur in the research context. The results show that the research findings confirm that the communication gap between security guards and students is the result of symbolic interactions that are not yet fully balanced between mind, self, and society. Therefore, improvement efforts are not enough only through the affirmation of rules, but also through strengthening symbolic awareness, empathy, and understanding the role of each social actor in order to create more effective, humane, and sustainable interactions in the campus environment.en_US
