This research aims to understand how communication styles are analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotics to reveal the denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings of the struggle for survival in the film Grave of the Fireflies, as well as to understand the communication styles between the older brother (Seita) and the younger sister (Setsuko) in their struggle for survival. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research results show that at the denotative level, sibling communication is depicted thru dialog, facial expressions, body gestures, and interactions in wartime situations. At the connotative level, this communication signifies responsibility, sacrifice, and emotional struggle in the fight for survival. At the mythological level, the film constructs the view that decisiveness, care, and openness are the main foundations in maintaining hope amidst a crisis. The older brother (Seita) tends to use an attentive and dominant communication style, as well as argumentative, friendly, dramatic, and animated expressive in certain situations. Meanwhile, the younger sister (Setsuko) predominantly uses an open and dramatic style, as well as argumentative and friendly. The implications of this research indicate that the communication between siblings plays a crucial role in building emotional resilience and maintaining relational bonds in wartime conditions.en_US
