Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji secara empiris mengenai Hubungan Dukungan Sosial dengan Kepercayaan Diri pada Penderita HIV/AIDS di Komunitas Medan Plus. Diasumsikan semakin tinggi dukungan sosial maka semakin tinggi kepercayaan diri dan sebaliknya semakin rendah dukungan sosial maka semakin rendah kepercayaan diri. Penelitian ini disusun berdasarkan metode skala likert pada dukungan sosial disusun dari jenis dukungan sosial menurut House (dalam Smet, 1994) yaitu: dukungan emosional, dukungan penghargaan, dukungan instrumental, dan dukungan informasional. Skala kepercayaan diri disusun berdasarkan karakteristik individu yang memiliki kepercayaan diri, diantaranya adalah: percaya akan kompetensi/kemampuan diri sendiri, tidak terdorong untuk menunjukkan sikap konformis, berani menerima dan menghadapi penolakan, punya pengendalian diri yang baik, memiliki internal locus of control, mempunyai cara pandang yang positif, dan memiliki harapan yang realistis terhadap diri sendiri. Berdasarkan analisis data, maka diperoleh hasil sebagai berikut Ada hubungan positif antara dukungan sosial dengan kepercayaan diri, dimana Rxy = 0.684 dengan signifikan p = 0.000 < 0,050. Artinya hipotesis yang diajukan, semakin tinggi dukungan sosial maka semakin tinggi kepercayaan diri dinyatakan diterima. Hubungan antara variabel bebas X dengan variabel terikat Y adalah sebesar R2 = 0,468. Ini menunjukkan bahwa dukungan sosial berkontribusi terhadap kepercayaan diri sebesar 46.8%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui ada faktor lain yang mempengaruhi kepercayaan diri sebesar 53,2 %.
Description: This study was aimed to empirically examine the Relationship between Social Support and People with HIV/AIDS’ Self-Confidence in Medan Plus Community. The hypotheses raised was the higher the social support given, the higher the self-confidence level of the people with HIV/AIDS and the other way around. This study is conducted by using Likert scale in social support according to kinds of social support based on House (in Smet, 1994) which are: Emotional Support, Reward Support, Instrumental Support, and Informational Support. The Self-Confidence scale was arranged based on individual characteristic which had self-confidence, such as: Believing in self-competence, Not being encouraged to show conformity, Having courage to accept and face rejection, Holding a good self-control, Possessing internal locus of control, Having a positive point of view, and Having a realistic hope towards him/herself. According to the data analysis, it was shown that There was a positive relationship between social support and self-confidence, where Rxy = 0.684 with significance of p = 0.000 < 0.050. This means that the hypotheses arisen, the higher the social support given – the higher the self-confidence, was accepted. The relationship between free variable X and bound variable Y is as much as R2 = 0.468. This shows that social support contributed to one’s self-confidence as much as 46.8%. According to the result of the study, there were other factors affecting self-confidence as much as 53.2%.
