Description: This research is a quantitative research that aims to test and obtain the empirical data of the relationship between intimate friendship and self disclosure of psychology students users of social media Facebook at Medan Area University of the academic year 2013 . In line with the theoretical foundation, the hypothesis was proposed that there is a negative relationship between intimate friendship and self disclosure, where the higher the student's intimate friendship, the lower the self disclosure. This research involved 87 psychology students users of social media Facebook at Medan Area University of the academic year 2013 as the subject of research. Sampling is done by Purposive Sampling technique. This research used likert scale instrument for intimate friendship scale and self disclosure scale. The scale of intimate friendship is based on dimentions according to Sharabany (2008) namely: freakness and spontaneity, sensivity and knowing, attachment, exclusiveness, giving and sharing, taking and imposition, common activities, and trust and loyalty . The scale of self disclosure is based on dimentions according to Devito (1986) namely: amount, valence, accuracy and honesty, intention, and intimacy. Based on the data analysis, there was a negative relationship between intimate friendship and self disclosure. This result was evidenced by the correlation coefficient, where rxy = - 0.372; P = 0.000 <0.05. The value of coefficient of determination (R square) research with a value of 0.138. It can be interpreted that intimate friendship variable influence self disclosure as 13.8%. From the calculation of the hypothetical mean and the empirical mean obtained low intimate friendship and high self disclosure.
