Abstract: The objective of this study was to examine the correlation between self-esteem and social loafing in SEALNet (South East Asian Leadership) Medan members. The sample of the data were 66 members of SEALNet Medan. Hypothesis in this research was: there was a negative correlation between self-esteem and social loafing. It means that the lower self-esteem an individual had, the higher did social loafing. Whereas, the higher self-esteem an individual had, the lower did social loafing. The sampling technique used in this research was total sampling technique. Self-esteem scale and social loafing scale were used to collect data. Data were analyzed with Product Moment correlation technique, which the results was (rxy) -0.609 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), that mean there was a negative and significant correlation between self-esteem and social loafing in SEALNet Medan members, which was also mean the hypothesis was accepted. Self-esteem was measured high in SEALNet members (empiric mean = 93.42 > hypotethical mean = 55 which the difference was more than SD value = 8.008). At the same time, social loafing was measured average in SEALNet members (empiric mean = 45.20 > hypotethical mean = 50 which the difference was between the top average and the bottom average of SD value = 7.058). The determinant coefficient of that correlation is r2 = 0.371 which means self-esteem contribute 37% to social loafing, whereas the rest 63% was contributed by other factors such as group size, culture, colleagues, individual perception of teammate’s effort, evaluation, gender, team cohesiveness, task characteristics, self-beliefs, expectations for group outcome, and competitive context.
