Hubungan Dukungan Orangtua dengan Harga Diri pada Remaja di SMP Swasta Pelita Mabar Hilir

Abstract

This study aims to see the correlation of parents’ support with self-esteem in adolescents in private Junior High School of Pelita Mabar Hilir. The sample in this study was 100 adolescents aged from 14-15 years. In line with the existing discussion in the theoretical basis, the hypothesis proposed in this study is that there is a positive relationship where the higher support of parents is, the higher self-esteem of adolescents. This study uses self-esteem scale and parents’ support scale, where the self-esteem scale consists of 4 aspects of self-meaning (significance), power of individual (power), competence (competence), individual adherence and ability to give example (virtue). While the scale of parent support consist of 6 aspects: creating a family life, having time with family, having good communication and respecting each other among family members, the quality and quantity of conflict is minimal, and the existence of close relationship or bond among family members. Data collection is done by using Likert scale. To test proposed hypothesis is done by using Pearson Product Moment correlation technique. Based on the results of data analysis conducted, so it obtains a result that there is a positive relationship between the support of parents with self-esteem in adolescents. This result is known by noticing the coefficient correlation value rxy= 0,423 with sig= 0,000 ˂ 0,05. This means that the correlation between parents’ support and self-esteem in adolescent is accepted.
