Abstract: This study aims to reveal the emotional regulation experience of a wife who is infected with HIV/AIDS. Emotional regulation is an intrinsic and extrinsic process that can control and adjust the emotions that emerge at the right intensity level to achieve a goal that includes the ability to regulate feelings, reactions, physiological, ways of thinking and emotional responses and can rapidly calm down after losing control for perceived emotions. This study uses qualitative research methods with phenomenological research types. Respondents consisted of 3 people. Data collection techniques used in this study are interviews and observations. The results of this study show that the three respondents were influenced by several factors, including: age, gender, environment, religiosity, personality, parenting, and culture. Factors that are extremely dominant on the three respondents are religiosity. These three respondents passed several processes in carrying out emotional regulation, including; Situation Selection, Situation Modification, Attention Deployment, Cognitive Change, Response Modulation. Emotional regulation aspect; Strategies to emotion Regulation (Strategies), Engaging in goals directed behavior (Goals), Control emotional responses (Impulse), Acceptance of emotional response (Acceptance). Respondents 1 and 3 are very prominent in the Acceptance of emotional response (Acceptance) aspect or accept these events and problems, when negative emotions arise. In contrast to respondent 2, the most prominent aspect is the strategy to emotion regulation (Strategies) or belief to be able to overcome problems by reducing negative emotions.
Description: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan pengalaman regulasi emosi istri yang tertular HIV/AIDS. Regulasi Emosi merupakan suatu proses instrinsik dan ekstrinsik yang dapat mengontrol serta menyesuaikan emosi yang muncul pada tingkat intesitas yang tepat untuk mencapai suatu tujuan yang meliputi kemampuan mengatur perasaan, reaksi, fisiologis, cara berfikir seseorang dan respon emosi serta dapat dengan cepat menenangkan diri setelah kehilangan kontrol atas emosi yang dirasakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian fenomenologis. Responden terdiri dari 3 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah wawancara dan observasi. Hasil penelitian ini menceritakan bahwa ketiga responden tersebut dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor, di antaranya: usia, jenis kelamin, lingkungan, religiusitas, kepribadian, pola asuh, dan budaya. Faktor yang sangat berpengaruh pada ketiga responden tersebut yaitu religiusitas. Ketiga responden ini melewati beberapa proses dalam melakukan regulasi emosi, diantaranya; Situation Selection (Pemilihan Situasi), Situation Modification (Situasi Modifikasi), Attention Deployment (Penyebaran Perhatian), Cognitive Change (Perubahan Kognitif), Respon Modulation (Modulasi Respon). Aspek regulasi emosi; Strategies to emotion Regulation (Strategies), Engaging in goal directed behaviour (Goals), Control emotional responses (Impulse), Acceptance of emotional response (Acceptance). Responden 1 dan responden 3 sangat menonjol pada Aspek Acceptance of emotional response (Acceptance) atau menerima kejadian dan permasalahan tersebut, ketika emosi negatif muncul. Berbeda dengan responden 2, aspek yang menonjol yaitu pada, strategies to emotion regulation (Strategies) atau keyakinan untuk dapat mengatasi masalah dengan cara mengurangi emosi negatif.
