Abstract

This study aims to see the relationship of parents' social support with self-esteem in adolescents who follow the motorcycle community in the Lubuk Pakam Region. Subjects in this study were male final adolescents who attended 47 motorcycle communities. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique. Retrieval of data using two scales, namely parental social support scale and self-esteem scale. Data analysis used product moment correlation (rxy) technique of 0, 620 with p = 0,000 <0.005, meaning that there was a significant positive relationship between parental social support and self-esteem in adolescents who participated in the motorcycle community, which showed that the higher parental social support give it the higher his pride. On the contrary, the lower the parental social support, the lower the self-esteem of the child is. The coefficient of determination of the correlation is R2 = 0, 38.4 means that parental social support contributes effectively to children's self-esteem by 38.4%. The results of this study fit the hypothesis with the results of field research. Parental social support in this study adolescents who participated in the motorcycle community are high because (empirical mean = 113.02> mean hypothetical = 97 where the difference exceeds SD number = 12.588). And self-esteem is also classified as high because (empirical mean 70.09> mean hypothetical = 62.5 where the difference exceeds SD = 8,077).
