Hubungan Dukungan Sosial dengan Kesejahteraan Psikologis Remaja Panti Asuhan di Kota Medan

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship of Social Support with Adolescent Psychological Welfare Orphanage in Medan City. Psychological wellbeing is the level of an individual's ability to accept himself as he is, form a warm relationship with others, be independent of social pressure, control the external environment, have meaning in life, and realize his potential continuously. The high and low Psychological Wellbeing can be seen from the Psychological Welfare scale compiled by researchers based on aspects of Psychological Wellbeing, namely Self Acceptance, Positive Relationship with others, Having Independence, Environmental Mastery, Life Purpose and Personal Growth. The hypothesis proposed in this study is that there is a significant positive relationship between Social Support and Psychological Welfare. Research subjects were taken as many as 48 people. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The measuring instrument used is the scale of Social Support and Psychological Welfare scale using a Likert scale. Processing of this research data by using Pearson product moment correlation technique. The results showed a correlation of 0.361 with p <0.012, this means that there is a significant positive correlation between Social Support with Psychological Welfare for Adolescent Orphanages in Medan City. This means that the more positive Social Support is, the better the Psychological Welfare, on the contrary the more negative Social Support is, the less good Psychological Welfare will be. The coefficient of determination of the correlation is R2 = 0.130 which means that Social Support contributes effectively to Psychological Welfare by 13% while the rest (87%) is determined by other factors that influence the invisible research, including age, gender, social status, economy, religiosity and personality.
