Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out and examine empirically if there is a relationship between self-confidence and independence in adolescents in Darul Aitam orphanage. The hypothesis of this study proposed about relationship between self-confidence and independence in adolescents in Darul Aitam orphanage. The data analysis method in this study carried out the Person Product Moment analysis technique. The sampling method is total sampling with a total sample of 64 students. Based on the results of the product moment correlation, it is known that the coefficient of correlation between social support and achievement motivation is rxy = 0.404 with p= 0,000; p <0.05, means the higher the self confidence, the higher the independence in adolescents. Or conversely, the lower the self confidence, the lower the independence in adolescents. Thus, the hypothesis that has been proposed in this study is declared "accepted". Self-confidence affects the independence of adolescents as much as 27.3%. This is in accordance with the opinion expressed by Amyani that independence is an aspect of personality which includes initiating behavior, being able to overcome obstacles or problems, having self-confidence and being able to do something alone without the help of others, and being responsible for his own behavior. Self-confidence is a personality aspect that must be achieved in an important functioning individual to actualize the potential possessed, where the individual has a feeling of confidence and be able to do something so that the desired goal can be achieved.
