Abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran stres akademik pada siswa di SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Medan. Stres akademik adalah segala tekanan yang dirasakan oleh siswa yang bisa menyebabkan stres apabila kemampuan mereka tidak sebanding dengan beban akademik yang diberikan. Populasi penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 253 orang siswa dari kelas X-XII SMA dan sampel penelitian sebanyak 124 orang yang diambil dengan teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Stres akademik dalam penelitian ini diukur dengan dimensi-dimensi menurut Sun, et.al., (2011) yakni pressure from study, workload, worry about grades, self-expectation, dan despondency. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan kategori tingkat stres akademik, sebanyak 18% atau 23 siswa berada pada kategori rendah, 64% atau 79 siswa berada pada kategori sedang dan 18% atau 22 siswa berada pada kategori tinggi. Selanjutnya dimensi yang paling dominan adalah pressure from study (26%), diikuti oleh workload (25%), worry about grades (18%), self-expectation (14%) dan despondency (17%). This study aims to determine the description of academic stress in students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Medan. Academic stress is any pressure felt by students that can cause stress if their abilities are not comparable to the academic load given. The population of this study was 253 students from grades X-XII of high school and the research sample was 124 people taken using purposive sampling technique. Academic stress in this study was measured by dimensions according to Sun, et.al., (2011) namely pressure from study, workload, worry about grades, self-expectation, and despondency. The research method used was quantitative descriptive. The results of this study indicate that based on the category of academic stress levels, 18% or 23 students were in the low category, 64% or 79 students were in the medium category and 18% or 22 students were in the high category. Furthermore, the most dominant dimension is pressure from study (26%), followed by workload (25%), worry about grades (18%), self-expectation (14%) and despondency (17%).
