This study aims to examine the relationship between depression levels and quality of life among patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) at the Pulmonary Clinic of RSUD Djoelham Binjai. Using a quantitative correlational approach, the study involved 217 patients selected through a total sampling technique, in which the entire population meeting the inclusion criteria was included as the sample. Depression levels were measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and quality of life was assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF. Data analysis using the Pearson correlation test revealed a significant negative relationship (r = -0.615; p = 0.000), indicating that the higher the level of depression, the lower the quality of life. Based on these findings, the hypothesis of this study is accepted, namely that there is a significant relationship between depression levels and quality of life among COPD patients. These results highlight the importance of psychological support in the management of COPD patients to comprehensively improve their quality of life. |
