Basically this research aims to know and prove differences in emotional intelligence in terms of the position of the eldest, middle and youngest children who became the subject of the study were Psychology students at the University of Medan Area. Based on the description contained in the theoretical basis, a hypothesis is proposed research which reads: There are differences in emotional intelligence between firstborn, middle and youngest in college students. In an effort to prove the hypothesis above, the method of analysis is used product moment correlation data, where the independent variable X is position children in the family (order of birth) and which is the dependent variable Y is emotional intelligence. This study uses the Product moment correlation analysis technique with sampling technique using Purposive Random Sampling. Based on the results of the data analysis show that there are differences in emotional intelligence in terms of from the position of the eldest, middle and youngest child by looking at the value/coefficient of difference Anava FA = 3.828 with p > 0.050, meaning that the order of the child's birth is decisive the condition of emotional intelligence possessed by children. University Psychology Student Medan Area turns out to have a relatively high emotional intelligence, because empirical average value of 166.48 the difference with the average hypothetical value of 13 5 exceeds SD or SB number is 13,055. Based on the results of data analysis, the hypothesis submitted is accepted.
