This study intends to find out the elasticity of demand for the commodity Banana Barangan (Musa paradisiaca sapietum L.) in Siguci Village, STM Hilir, Deli Serdang Regency, one of the Banana Barangan producing villages. A quantitative analysis method was used in this study by demand elasticity calculations, to which extent demand for a product responds to price changes thus the elasticity value may vary for each price level. Furthermore, regarding sampling, the survey method was used to collect primary data through a list of questions and writing. The population and sample comprised 7 hamlets involving 30 Barangan banana farmers. The research findings revealed that there were 16 data whose elasticity of demand is > 1. There were 12 data whose elasticity of demand is < 1. There were 2 data whose elasticity of demand showed Single Elasticity. In addition, the increase in the price of Barangan Bananas affected the demand for goods. In this case study, the cost of bananas has increased thus Barangan Bananas underwent a slight decrease in demand for the purchase of Barangan Bananas whose process was conducted by analyzing the elasticity of demand for Barangan Bananas in Siguci Village, given that Barangan Bananas were not among staple foods. When the price increased, they could be abandoned. Otherwise, when the price decreased, they could no longer be consumed. |
